Ronaldinho to make competitive return with Ravenna in Serie C derby

Brazilian legend Ronaldinho will suit up for Italian third-division side Ravenna against rivals Forli on November 15, marking his first competitive appearance since 2015.

Ravenna announced that Ronaldinho, the Brazilian star who lifted the 2002 World Cup and earned the 2005 Ballon d’Or, will return to competitive football on November 15 in a Serie C clash with Forli. The 46-year-old last played for Fluminense in 2015 and officially retired three years later. He joined Ravenna in June, acquiring a stake in the club owned by his longtime friend Ignazio Cipriani, who said the signing is meant to bring the city closer to the team.

Although Ronaldinho did not confirm his playing status when he arrived in Italy, he hinted at the possibility of scoring his 300th career goal. The derby will take place at Stadio Bruno Benelli, with Ravenna sitting second in Group B, eight points behind leaders Spezia.

Why it matters

Ronaldinho's comeback draws global attention to lower-division Italian football and highlights his ongoing influence on the sport.
