Roti canai vendor charged with killing his 5-year-old niece in Kota Tinggi

Abadi Mohd Yasro, a 37-year-old roti canai maker, appeared before a magistrate in Kota Tinggi and was read a murder charge for the killing of his five-year-old niece, Puteri Nur Afiyah Qalesya Mustafa, who drowned after being thrown into the Sungai Sedili Besar river on September 21. The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, allows for the death penalty or, alternatively, a prison term of up to 40 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the whip.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Nuraini Mohd Shapee presented the case, while Abadi remained unrepresented. Police officers escorted him to court, and a policeman was injured during the suspect’s arrest. The court scheduled a November 26 mention to arrange a medical examination at Permai Hospital Johor Baru and to obtain the forensic report.
