Royal Mail lets customers disable Safeplace deliveries before Christmas

Royal Mail customers can now opt out of the free Safeplace service for parcels arriving before December 25, preventing items from being left outside.

Royal Mail is advising shoppers to disable the complimentary Safeplace option for deliveries scheduled before Christmas Day to keep gifts hidden or avoid exposure to the elements. The Safeplace service, included with Tracked 24, Tracked 48 and Royal Mail 24/48, allows postmen to leave parcels in a designated secure spot when recipients are absent. Customers can opt out via the Royal Mail app, prompting couriers to seek alternative delivery methods, or they can call the service to have an accessibility requirement applied.

The company defines a Safeplace as a weather-proof, concealed area that is not a doorstep, recycling bin, or under a parked car, and it cannot be used for items needing a signature, age verification, or that are vulnerable to damage. Royal Mail also notes that vulnerable customers receive special consideration when a Safeplace is selected. Support is available for those with accessibility needs to arrange suitable delivery options.

Why it matters
