Rubio claims Ukraine would not exist without U.S. aid amid Starlink drone disruptions
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Ukraine survived nearly five years of war only because of U.S. assistance, after Ukrainian officials reported Starlink outages that hampered drone missions.
Ukrainian officials recently disclosed that Starlink satellite terminals, crucial for directing drones, experienced unplanned interruptions, affecting both offensive UAV missions and the interception of Russian drones. American reports linked the reduced functionality to a deliberate move by SpaceX, allegedly prompted by the White House. In response, Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that Ukraine has endured almost five years of conflict largely thanks to U.S. aid, stating that without that support, particularly under the Trump administration, Ukraine would not exist as an independent nation.
He clarified that the United States does not dictate how a private firm uses its product and denied any prior awareness of the Starlink restrictions. Rubio added that the U.S. will no longer adopt a defensive stance on the issue and praised Ukrainian soldiers for their courageous resistance. The White House has not commented, and Ukrainian adviser Serhij Beskrestnow offered no evidence linking Trump-era pressure to the Starlink limitations.
