Russia claims to have downed 45 Ukrainian drones in a twelve-hour surge

Russia’s defence ministry announced that it destroyed 45 Ukrainian drones over a twelve-hour period, targeting aircraft over Belgorod, Briansk, Kursk, Ryazan, the Republic of Bashkortostan and Crimea, and reported no damage or casualties. Ukrainian sources confirmed two injuries from drone attacks in the Russian Bryansk oblast. A Russian strike on a minibus in Komyshuvakha, Zaporijia region, resulted in one civilian death and three injuries, while an air raid in Voznesensk district, Mykolaiv oblast, killed a child despite emergency medical care.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said recent drone and missile incidents near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant could pose a potential nuclear safety risk. Ukraine’s foreign minister Andrii Sybiha denounced the daily threat to civilian logistics and food-supply chains, urging verifiable de-escalation measures. President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s readiness for diplomatic talks to end the conflict. The Russian ministry’s statement omitted any mention of damage, contrasting with the reported civilian casualties on the ground.
