Russia imposes sudden border movement bans near Estonian towns of Jaama and Slantsy

Russia's security agency, the FSB, has introduced partial movement prohibitions for the border areas surrounding the Estonian villages of Jaama and Slantsy. Estonia's Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) acknowledged the existence of these bans but reported that Russian border authorities did not provide advance notice. According to the PPA, the restrictions limit certain actions, including hunting and the possession of firearms without a specific licence, and also curtail travel along the Narva River.

The PPA is coordinating with Estonia's security services to monitor developments on the eastern frontier. A recent incident involved a Jordanian citizen who attempted to cross the temporary surveillance line on the Narva River from the Russian side and was later detained by border guards and police.
