Russia offers over Rs 50,000 crore for five extra S-400 squadrons to India

Russia submitted a proposal worth over Rs 50,000 crore to provide India with five further S-400 Triumf long-range air-defence squadrons. The defence ministry has taken receipt of the bid and is processing it, according to defence sources. India cleared the acquisition of the additional squadrons in March 2026 following Operation Sindoor, intending to bolster its layered air-defence network across western and eastern theatres.

Alongside the new units, the deal calls for more than 280 missiles to expand the interceptor inventory for both current and future squadrons. The original 2018 contract covered five squadrons, of which four have arrived and the final one is slated for delivery by November 2026. Under the new agreement, deliveries are expected to start roughly three years after the contract is signed, extending India's long-range coverage against aerial threats.
