Russia threatens retaliation after UK-made drones allegedly used in attacks on its soil
Moscow warned London it would face consequences after reports that British-built drones were employed by Ukraine to strike targets deep inside Russia.
Russia’s diplomatic mission in London issued a statement saying the United Kingdom would incur a “price” after reports that drones built in Britain were used by Kyiv to hit deep-inside Russian targets. Citing a Sunday Times investigation, the embassy accused Britain of acting as an “accomplice and co-perpetrator” and of deliberately escalating the conflict. One of the drone makers identified is a subsidiary of defence contractor BAE Systems; the other company was omitted for security reasons.
Moscow warned that increased British involvement with Ukraine’s “terrorist machinery” would raise the cost to the UK. The British defence ministry did not immediately comment on the allegations. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, the UK has supplied about 25 billion pounds in assistance to Ukraine, including 16 billion pounds in military aid, while Ukraine has stepped up long-range strikes inside Russian territory.
