Russian drone strike sparks fire in Kyiv residential courtyard

A Russian drone was intercepted over Kyiv on Oct. 5, and debris ignited two cars in a Pecherskyi district courtyard, while a third vehicle was damaged.

Air defenses shot down a Russian drone targeting Kyiv late on Oct. 5, causing wreckage to fall onto a residential building in the Pecherskyi district. The impact set two cars ablaze in the courtyard and damaged a third. Ukraine's State Emergency Service confirmed the damage, and an air-raid alert had been issued minutes earlier. The attack follows a drone strike on Kyiv's Northern Bridge the previous day that injured two people, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Why it matters

The attack shows Russia's ongoing ability to reach Kyiv, threatening civilian safety and infrastructure.
