Russian drone swarm hits western Ukraine, injuring civilians and disrupting power
Russian forces launched a mass drone raid on Volyn and Rivne oblasts, wounding five people and causing electricity outages.
On September 12, Russian drones carried out a prolonged attack on Ukraine's north-west, targeting Volyn and Rivne oblasts far from the front lines. Governor Roman Romaniuk said more than ten drones flew over Volyn for over four hours, focusing on the Kovel community and causing debris to strike a passenger train in Lutsk; all passengers had been evacuated beforehand. Five people were injured and treated, with no deaths recorded.
In Rivne, Governor Oleksandr Koval reported power cuts in Dubno and the Rivne district and the destruction of an unnamed enterprise in Sarny, though no casualties occurred. The strikes demonstrate Russia's capacity to reach deep into western Ukraine, extending the conflict beyond the immediate battle zones and threatening civilian infrastructure.
