Russian drones strike Ahrofrukt plant in Volhynia, halting production

Russian drones hit the Ahrofrukt LTD facility in Volhynia on Sunday, prompting a temporary shutdown after a fatal attack two days earlier.

A second Russian drone assault hit the Ahrofrukt LTD facility in Ukraine’s Volhynia region on Sunday at roughly 6:30 local time, igniting a fire that emergency crews worked to extinguish. The plant, which lies about 100 km from the Polish border and is part of the Polko Group, had been targeted previously on Friday, when a drone strike killed one worker and left eight others injured. After the latest attack, the company halted production temporarily and announced support for the family of the deceased employee as well as for those wounded.

Co-owner Sławomir Polkowski said the strike occurred around 8:00 local time (9:00 in Poland) and that only a portion of the workforce was on site. He also warned that Russian drone operations are expanding to additional Ukrainian regions, threatening industrial and storage facilities. Ahrofrukt, operating since 2001, exports organic berries and collaborates with local farmers, supplying markets including Poland.

Why it matters

The attacks highlight the growing risk to Ukrainian food-processing infrastructure from Russian drone strikes.
