Russian drones strike Kyiv, injuring nine and setting fires in residential blocks

On Sept. 9, Russian drones resumed assaults on Kyiv, targeting residential areas in the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts. The first impact hit a 24-storey building, setting the 12th floor ablaze, while the second caused a fire in a nearby warehouse. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said nine individuals were injured during the attacks, which prompted an air-raid alert that lasted over six hours.

In the wider Kyiv Oblast, two fatalities and seven injuries—including two children—were recorded, and damage was confirmed at 31 locations, ranging from homes to industrial facilities. The strikes followed a brief lull after a visit by U.S. envoys and came a day after a larger missile and drone barrage that killed five and injured 35 in the capital.
