Russian drones strike near Poland-Ukraine border, prompting heightened security
A Russian drone damaged a Ukrainian passenger train close to the Polish border with no injuries, while Polish officials confirmed attacks on a fuel station and a rail siding, raising security alerts.
Ukrainian rail operators reported that a Russian-launched drone struck a passenger train locomotive traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw early Sunday, about two kilometres on the Ukrainian side of the border, causing damage but no injuries. Separate media reports described a drone hitting a truck near the Jagodzin area, roughly 800 metres from the frontier. In a special meeting called by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, officials said they could not confirm the train and truck attacks, though they verified strikes on a nearby fuel station and a freight-train siding.
The government ordered the evacuation of two border crossings as a precaution. Coordination minister Tomasz Siemoniak posted that Poland’s army, special services and interior ministry are on full readiness and remain in close contact with NATO allies. PKP Intercity and Ukrainian state railways confirmed the drone impact on the passenger train, noting passengers were evacuated safely. Tusk warned that Russian actions are escalating and moving ever closer to Poland’s border.
