Russian influence campaigns flood the web with counterfeit news sites

Newsguard reports a surge of Russian-backed fake media outlets, identifying over 900 bogus articles that mimic major news brands.

The disinformation-monitoring firm Newsguard says Kremlin-linked influence groups have multiplied media impersonations, creating more than 900 counterfeit reports. These fake pieces copy the logos and visual styles of several outlets. In total, around 160 international media brands are being spoofed, often via look-alike URLs that are hard to spot at first glance.
