Major General Anton Grunis, who recently received the Hero of the Russian Federation award, is reported dead in Ukraine.

Russian major general Anton Grunis, commander of a motorized rifle brigade, received the Hero of the Russian Federation honor after reporting the seizure of the industrial town of Konstjantynivka in eastern Ukraine. Several outlets, such as the independent Russian-language site Astra and a Russian Z-medium, now claim that Grunis has been killed in the conflict. No official comment has been issued by Russian state media.

The general’s military career includes combat experience in Chechnya and Georgia, and he had come out of retirement to take part in the war against Ukraine. The report also notes that other senior Russian officers, including Lieutenant General Sergej Miltsjakov and Colonel-Lieutenant Viktor Basenko, have been reported killed in recent attacks in the Donetsk region.
