Russian Shahed drone strike hits Odesa shop, injuring three, Zelensky blames US signals

A Russian Shahed drone attack partially destroyed a shop in Ukraine's Odesa region, wounding three people, and President Volodimir Zelenski linked the strike to U.S. signals to Moscow.

A Shahed-type drone launched by Russia struck a shop in the Odesa region, causing partial destruction of the premises and damage to multiple cars. Emergency services responded, and three people were reported injured. President Volodimir Zelenski used the incident to accuse the United States of sending dangerous signals to Moscow, suggesting that a relaxation of sanctions could provoke more aggression.

He reiterated that Russian attacks on residential buildings, stores, energy infrastructure and other vital targets continue unabated. Zelenski called on Ukraine’s partners to help protect the country and maintain the sanctions imposed by the international community. He warned that additional funding for Russia’s war machine would not end the conflict, stressing that the United States remains stronger than Russian terror.

Why it matters

The attack shows the war’s impact on civilians and highlights tensions over sanctions policy between Ukraine and the United States.
