Russian strike hits KSD warehouse in Kharkiv, delaying new book releases

A Russian attack on the Kharkiv warehouse of publisher KSD forced the postponement of its upcoming November titles, though no staff were hurt.

On the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, KSD revealed that a Russian strike struck its Kharkiv warehouse, causing a delay to its scheduled November book launches. The publisher confirmed that no workers were injured, but it has not yet determined the full extent of the loss to its inventory. This attack follows a pattern of Russian bombardments that have repeatedly targeted Ukrainian printing facilities and storage sites, destroying millions of books over recent months.

The Culture Ministry has responded with a $500,000 grant program to help independent publishers recover from such losses. KSD appealed to the public to buy books in its stores or order them online, emphasizing that each purchase supports the continuation of Ukrainian literary production.

Why it matters

The strike hampers Ukraine's cultural sector and highlights ongoing threats to its publishing industry.
