Russian strike hits Ukraine's Izmail port and a train, Zelenskiy asks for Patriot missiles

Russian forces struck the Izmail port, Ukraine's largest Danube grain export hub near the Romanian border, causing infrastructure damage and a power outage in the city. In the same region, a Russian drone hit a passenger train, killing both the driver and the assistant Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, the chief executive of Ukrainian Railways. The attacks came a day after Ukraine targeted the Russian Black Sea grain hub at Novorossiysk.

Romania scrambled two fighter jets, intercepting an aerial object that spent about ten minutes in its airspace before proceeding toward Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy appeared on one outlet, requesting that the United States provide at least 5% of its Patriot interceptor stockpile, and suggesting that 10% would neutralize all Russian ballistic missiles. He emphasized the urgency of acquiring the newer PAC-3 missiles to protect the country through winter. Ukrainian air force officials noted a surge in Russian ballistic missile launches in July and announced a shift to monthly reporting of interception figures.
