Russian strikes cripple factories, data centre and power grid in Ukraine overnight

Overnight Russian attacks on Oct. 19 damaged factories in Irpin, a Kyiv data centre and power infrastructure in Volyn, killing one civilian and wounding eight.

Russian missiles and drones struck multiple sites across Ukraine on the night of Oct. 19. In Irpin, mayor Oleksandr Markushyn said a major enterprise caught fire and windows in nearby apartments were shattered; one outlet's reports point to Ecosoft and Planet Plastic as the likely victims. Kyiv’s DataGroup data centre was hit, destroying its equipment while backup systems kept services running.

The attacks also damaged civilian infrastructure in Volyn, where roughly 66,000 electricity metering points lost power after about 15 drones were intercepted. Authorities recorded one civilian death and eight injuries in Kyiv, with damage to a metro station, schools and medical facilities. No injuries were reported in Volyn despite extensive debris damage.

Why it matters

The strikes further weaken Ukraine's industrial capacity and civilian services as winter approaches.
