Russian strikes expand to Ukrainian shopping malls, hitting Kharkiv and Kryvyi Rih
Russia has begun targeting Ukrainian shopping centres, with a recent attack in Kharkiv and a deadly strike in Kryvyi Rih that killed sixteen people.
The Russian campaign against Ukraine is now adding commercial venues to its list of targets, focusing on warehouses, data centres and increasingly on malls. On Wednesday a mall in Kharkiv was hit by a Russian strike. In August, a separate attack on Kryvyi Rih, the president’s hometown, resulted in sixteen fatalities. Officials say the constant air-raid alerts and sirens are also harming the economy as businesses lose revenue and customers stay underground.
Why it matters
The shift to civilian commercial targets deepens Ukraine's economic strain and endangers everyday life.
