Ryan Wedding's murder trial postponed until October 2027 over case complexity

Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett granted a joint request from the prosecution and defense to push back the trial of Ryan Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder now accused of leading a large drug-smuggling network, to October 2027. The delay reflects the case's described “unusual and complex” nature, with both sides needing additional time to review massive amounts of digital evidence, including video, audio, encrypted messages and financial records.

Wedding is charged with conspiracy to export cocaine and with murders tied to his alleged enterprise, specifically the 2023 mistaken-identity shooting of Jagtar and Harbhajan Sidhu in Caledon and the 2024 killing of Mohammed Zafar in Brampton. Several co-defendants, such as Gennadii Bilonog, remain at large, while others like Gurpreet Singh, Hardeep Ratte and Malik Damion Cunningham are contesting extradition from Canada. The case follows a 2024 federal grand jury indictment and a prior 2009 conviction for a related cocaine purchase, for which Wedding served a 48-month sentence.
