Sabah police urge postponement of Israel Houghton concert over community sensitivities

Sabah police intend to counsel the state government to defer Israel Houghton’s concert series if a formal petition is filed, according to Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun. The recommendation reflects widespread public comment and two police reports labeling the event unsuitable given current community sensitivities. Houghton, an eight-time Grammy winner, previously posted support for Israel on Instagram in October 2023, which has heightened local concerns.

The performances are scheduled from Oct 22 to 25 at multiple locations in Kota Kinabalu, though organizers have not submitted a formal application for approval.
