Sabotage blast hits Al-Jabsa gas pipeline in Syria's Hasakah region

A 16-inch gas pipeline in Hasakah province was damaged by an explosion described as sabotage, prompting fire-fighting and isolation measures.

On Thursday evening, a sabotage-linked explosion damaged the 16-inch Al-Jabsa gas pipeline about 60 km from Al-Shaddadi in Hasakah province, the Syrian Petroleum Company said. The blast ignited a fire, and response teams quickly isolated the affected segment by shutting valves at the plant and at the Deir ez-Zor gas station in al-Bughailiya, then cordoned off the site. This attack comes after a separate sabotage incident earlier that day on a pipeline moving fuel from Baniyas to Homs, which caused a gasoline leak.

Earlier sabotage events in late September and early October also targeted pipelines in the northeast and near Damascus, disrupting power stations. The string of attacks follows recent protests over rising fuel prices, which authorities linked to regional price pressures from the Middle East war.

Why it matters

Repeated sabotage of Syria's pipelines threatens energy supplies and underscores instability in the post-war reconstruction period.
