Sabotaged high-voltage pylon in Haute-Savoie halts Evian bottling plant and local paper mill

One outlet reported that three supports of a high-voltage pylon on the Marin-Thonon-les-Bains corridor were deliberately cut, an act announced on an ultraleft platform. The sabotage cut electricity to private households, which were restored promptly, but forced the Evian bottling plant and the Papeteries du Léman paper mill to cease production until Tuesday evening. Danone, the owner of Evian, confirmed the shutdown without specifying when output resumed.

The paper mill’s deputy general manager said the interruption caused significant economic loss and potential safety risks for staff, and a complaint was lodged with the Thonon gendarmerie. A statement on Indymedia claimed responsibility, accusing the two firms of worsening drought conditions, while Thales declined comment on alleged involvement.
