Sacha Baron Cohen to Lead Quentin Tarantino’s First West End Play ‘The Popinjay Cavalier’

Sacha Baron Cohen is poised to make his first appearance on a theatrical stage, taking on the lead role in Quentin Tarantino’s debut West End play, ‘The Popinjay Cavalier’. Described as a rambunctious, swashbuckling comedy of deception, the production is set against the backdrop of 1830s Europe and will be mounted by Sonia Friedman Productions in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. The show is scheduled to open at an as-yet-unrevealed West End venue in the spring of 2027, marking Tarantino’s initial foray into live theatre.

Cohen’s casting arrives alongside his upcoming return as Ali G in the Amazon MGM feature ‘Ali G Who Iz I?’, due for global release in October. Earlier this year, his Netflix comedy ‘Ladies First’ and Prime Video’s ‘Balls Up’ each claimed the top spot in global streaming rankings, underscoring his continued box-office draw. The project adds another high-profile credit to Cohen’s résumé, which already includes multiple BAFTA wins, three Oscar nominations, and three Golden Globe awards.
