Safari gains AI-driven automatic tab grouping in macOS 27
macOS 27 introduces an optional feature that lets Safari automatically sort open tabs by topic using on-device intelligence.
Apple's latest desktop release, macOS 27, expands Safari's capabilities with an optional automatic tab organization tool powered by Apple Intelligence. After installing the update, users can activate the feature in Safari's settings under the Tabs menu by selecting "Automatically Create Topics." The system then analyzes page content locally and clusters tabs into thematic groups, for example grouping gaming sites together.
The feature is not turned on by default, allowing users to retain the familiar tab experience unless they choose to enable it. For those who prefer more control, the "Show Related Tabs" option provides grouping suggestions without enforcing them. Additional Safari enhancements in the beta include a "Notify Me" alert for webpage changes and AI-generated custom extensions. The beta version is available now, with a public release expected later this year.
