Safety tests reveal belt failure in Britax Römer Baby-Safe Pro car seat

Crash tests showed the seat belt can detach and the dummy can be ejected when the Britax Römer Baby-Safe Pro is used in a rear-tilted position with its base.

In frontal impact trials, the restraint strap on the Britax Römer Baby-Safe Pro detached completely, causing the crash test dummy to be thrown from the seat. The problem occurred only when the seat was angled backward on its Vario Base 5Z. Tests with the seat upright or installed using the vehicle’s seat belt instead of the base did not produce a belt failure. Consumer group Råd&Rön now advises against using the seat in that configuration. Britax Römer has been notified and is reviewing the findings, with no recall decision made yet.

Why it matters

Parents could face injury risks if the seat is used in the warned-against rear-tilted setup.
