Safran opens $22 million landing-gear MRO hub in Singapore, its second-largest globally
Safran Landing Systems Services Singapore inaugurated a $22 million, 7,500 sq m landing-gear MRO plant in Singapore, making the city-state its second-largest site worldwide.
Safran Landing Systems Services Singapore (SLSSS) launched a $22 million, 7,500-square-metre landing-gear maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centre at 66 Loyang Way on Tuesday, a project backed by the Singapore Economic Development Board. The new site, adjacent to the existing SLSSS facility at 21 Loyang Crescent, raises the company's total Singapore footprint to 20,500 sq m, making it the second-largest landing-gear MRO location globally and the largest in the Asia-Pacific region.
The plant will concentrate on the assembly of complete landing-gear sets, targeting a weekly output of about 2.5 sets and supporting aircraft such as the Boeing 787, 737 and Airbus A380, A350, A320 families and ATR models. The older Loyang Crescent plant will continue handling repairs and manufacturing, while the expansion is projected to increase overall capacity by roughly 40 percent and add 100 new positions by 2030, bringing the Singapore workforce to around 460.
Safran holds a 60 percent stake in the joint venture with SIA Engineering Company, which owns the remaining 40 percent. Managing director Benoit Graby said the new facility will also enable future adoption of advanced processes, including titanium part repairs and sophisticated coating techniques.
Why it matters
The hub expands Safran's MRO capacity in Asia, supporting more aircraft and creating jobs in Singapore's aviation sector.
