Sainsbury's adds weekly £3 e-gift top-up for Healthy Start families

Sainsbury's will issue a £3 e-gift card each week for six weeks to eligible Healthy Start families, starting mid-November.

Sainsbury's introduced a six-week bonus scheme aimed at families participating in the NHS Healthy Start programme, providing a £3 e-gift card each week beginning 18 November 2026. The weekly credit, which can amount to £18 in total, may be spent on a range of fruit, vegetables, beans and pulses both in stores and online. Eligibility requires shoppers to have made a purchase at Sainsbury's within the previous 12 months and to have used a Healthy Start Mastercard together with a Nectar card in a single transaction.

Interested customers must register on the retailer’s Healthy Start page before 11.59 pm on 9 November 2026. Each e-gift card must be redeemed within seven days of receipt. The initiative follows a 2021 trial that showed participants bought an average of 13 extra portions of produce per basket.

Why it matters

The scheme aims to boost nutrition for low-income families during the holiday season by subsidising fresh produce.
