Sainsbury's introduces AI-driven SmartLists feature to simplify grocery planning
Sainsbury's has added an AI-powered SmartLists tool to its app, allowing shoppers to generate lists from meal ideas or photos.
Sainsbury's launched SmartLists, an AI-enabled addition to its mobile app that creates shopping lists from simple text inputs or photographed handwritten notes. The system matches the generated list with items available in the retailer's aisles, helping shoppers compare options and locate the best value. Selected products can be instantly added to an online basket for delivery or click-and-collect.
SmartLists is integrated into a larger app overhaul that brings together services such as online ordering, SmartShop, ChopChop, and Nectar Points in a single interface. Ben Edge, the company's Director of Product, explained that the feature is designed to reduce the effort required to plan and purchase groceries. The rollout aims to streamline the shopping experience for customers with limited time.
