Salt Lake County voters face $128 million recreation bond decision this November
Voters in Salt Lake County will decide in November whether to back a $128 million bond for new and upgraded recreation facilities.
Salt Lake County’s November ballot will feature a $128 million recreation bond, up from the $100 million plan approved earlier this year. The council’s amendment adds funding for a West Jordan recreation center and a Salt Lake City civic campus, both omitted from the advisory board’s original list. West Jordan Mayor Dirk Burton expressed enthusiasm, while Midvale Mayor Dustin Gettel highlighted a planned Union Park Recreation Center with a pool and indoor track.
Herriman’s Southwest one outlet Complex will receive $10 million for its first phase, aiming to serve multiple neighboring cities. The bond will not raise property taxes, as it replaces the 2016 bond, and a public meeting is scheduled for Oct. 6 at the county government center. Voters must approve the measure in the Nov. 3 general election.
Why it matters
The outcome will determine funding for dozens of parks and new sports facilities affecting thousands of county residents.
