Salvador Caragea resigns as special administrator of UM Sadu citing health issues
Viorel Salvador Caragea stepped down from his role as special administrator of the UM Sadu mechanical plant after six months, citing medical advice.
Former IPJ Gorj commander Viorel Salvador Caragea resigned as special administrator of the UM Sadu mechanical plant after six months, stating that a medical specialist advised him to leave. Appointed in February 2026 with a gross monthly salary of 3,100 lei, he encountered resistance, including a strike opposing his appointment. Caragea reported completing an inventory of the plant’s assets and debts, identifying causes of production delays, and initiating actions that allowed the lifting of ANAF seizures and the start of asset-rental procedures.
He also secured a visit from Minister Ambrozie Irineu Darău, Vice-Prime Minister Radu Miruță and state secretaries, who expressed interest in his proposals for the plant’s revival. Despite limited production, he claimed progress in meeting delivery deadlines and attracting a prospective investment of over $100 million. The interim Economy Minister Irinel Darău praised Caragea’s concrete results in a comment to his Facebook post.
Why it matters
The resignation highlights challenges in reviving a struggling state-owned defense plant and the political scrutiny of its management.
