Salvini faces governors’ push to federalise Lega ahead of Pontida rally
Matteo Salvini met with regional governors to discuss a federal overhaul of the Lega before the upcoming Pontida gathering.
In a meeting with the party’s regional governors, Matteo Salvini agreed to consider changes to the Lega’s organisational statute, moving toward a federal structure that would create three inter-regional sections. The governors, including Attilio Fontana, Massimiliano Fedriga, Luca Zaia and Maurizio Fugatti, urged Salvini to announce the reform at the forthcoming Pontida rally. Earlier, minister Roberto Calderoli had drafted a new statute, which Salvini had dismissed.
The leaders highlighted the need for a unified front at the gathering, which will also commemorate Umberto Bossi. The outcome of the talks will determine whether the party adopts the proposed federal model before the event.
