Salvini touts extensive infrastructure plan amid left-wing criticism

Speaking at the Forum in Cernobbio, Matteo Salvini outlined a comprehensive infrastructure agenda designed to answer left-wing attacks on public spending. He described ongoing work on national rail networks, including numerous construction sites and high-speed routes, and stressed three priority corridors linking Rome to the south, Sicily to the mainland, and the north-east region. Road projects, new public-transport facilities and port upgrades were also listed, together with water-sector proposals and housing regeneration efforts.

Salvini cited the legacy of the Milan-Cortina Olympics as generating significant economic spillovers. He defended large-scale works such as the Turin-Lyon rail line, the Brenner base tunnel and new flood-defence barriers, arguing they will create jobs and boost GDP. Finally, he warned that some political forces are slowing progress and noted the presence of security personnel protecting construction sites.
