Samsung and Verizon finish AI-driven 6G trial at Texas soccer event
Samsung Electronics and Verizon Communications announced the successful completion of an AI-powered Integrated Sensing and Communication trial for future 6G networks during a major soccer fan gathering in Texas.
Samsung Electronics reported that it and Verizon Communications have completed a key technology trial aimed at commercializing sixth-generation (6G) networks. The demonstration took place at a large international soccer fan event in Texas and used an AI-powered Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) system. By integrating Samsung's commercial virtualized radio access network (vRAN) and virtualized core (vCore) with an ISAC application, the trial leveraged existing 5G connectivity without requiring new equipment.
The success highlights how software-driven, AI-enhanced network architectures can perceive and react to their environment in real time. Samsung's executive vice president and head of product strategy for networks, Ji-Yun-seol, said Verizon's early move to a software-based vRAN laid a solid foundation for the 6G journey. The test aligns with the Verizon-led 6G Innovation Forum, which also includes Meta Platforms, Ericsson, Nokia and Qualcomm.
