Samsung Bioepis signs 10-year exclusive SB12 supply contract with Brazil
Samsung Bioepis has agreed to provide its eculizumab biosimilar SB12 to Brazil’s Ministry of Health for the next decade, securing exclusive rights.
Samsung Bioepis announced a decade-long exclusive supply arrangement to provide SB12, its eculizumab biosimilar, to Brazil’s Ministry of Health. SB12 treats rare conditions such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, and received ANVISA approval in December 2024. The contract, beginning next year, operates under Brazil’s Productive Development Partnership program and includes collaboration with local firms Bionovis and the state-run research institute Bahiafarma for manufacturing and technology transfer.
This agreement expands Samsung Bioepis’ Brazilian portfolio, which already includes SB4 and SB3, with past shipments of those products topping six million units. The company expects the deal to generate stable revenue from Brazil’s roughly $170 million eculizumab market. Executive vice president Jin-han Jung said the partnership aims to improve access to high-quality medicines for patients with rare diseases and support the country’s biopharmaceutical growth.
Why it matters
The deal boosts Brazil’s access to affordable rare-disease treatments and strengthens Samsung Bioepis’ foothold in Latin America’s biggest pharma market.
