Samsung Display to supply Apple with $250 foldable panels for iPhone Duo

A leak posted on Weibo by Instant Digital claims Samsung Display has entered a three-year exclusive agreement with Apple to furnish the inner folding display panels for the iPhone Duo and future models, at an estimated price of $250 per panel. The inner screen’s design, which incorporates Samsung’s M16 OLED material and a dual Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) structure supplied by Dowoo Insys, is considerably more intricate than the OLED panels used in existing iPhones, driving up its cost.

Apple reportedly finds alternatives from LG Display and BOE unsuitable, citing concerns over BOE’s reliability and LG’s lack of foldable technology. The $250 price point would represent a sizable portion of the phone’s overall cost, roughly one-eighth of the expected $1,999 selling price. If Apple follows its typical annual release cadence for foldables, Samsung could secure a steady revenue stream from this partnership. Forecasts suggest Apple may ship over five million foldable phones by the end of 2026, potentially capturing a quarter of the market.
