Samsung poised for record 100 trillion won profit as DRAM margins surge
Samsung Electronics is expected to post operating profit above 100 trillion won, with DRAM margins possibly exceeding 80 percent.
Industry estimates suggest Samsung Electronics will record operating profit exceeding 100 trillion won for the first time, with an average projection of 107.7 trillion won for the quarter, up from 89.4 trillion won previously. The Device Solutions unit is projected to achieve an operating margin between 72 and 75 percent, and its DRAM segment may see margins above 80 percent. TrendForce anticipates DRAM prices to climb 13 to 18 percent, markedly slower than the roughly 60 percent rise seen earlier.
Analysts attribute the unusually high margins to a reallocation of capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and high-capacity server products, reducing output of standard DRAM. Demand for server DDR5 and AI data-center investments is also rising, extending lead times for high-capacity DDR5 to as long as 52 weeks. This structural shift is expected to keep conventional DRAM scarce and support higher prices.
Why it matters
Samsung's record profit and soaring DRAM margins signal a major shift in memory supply that could affect global tech costs.
