Samsung poised to break 100 trillion won profit mark on memory chip surge

Analysts expect Samsung Electronics to post operating profit of about 108 trillion won, driven by strong memory chip sales.

Brokerage estimates suggest Samsung Electronics will announce third-quarter operating profit of 108.1 trillion won, up almost nine times from the same period last year, on revenue of 201.7 trillion won. The dramatic rise is attributed to booming sales of conventional DRAM, DDR5, NAND and high-bandwidth memory, with the company’s HBM market share climbing to 33 percent. Its Device Solutions unit is forecast to achieve an operating margin between 72 and 75 percent, and the DRAM segment may exceed an 80 percent margin.

In contrast, the foundry, System LSI and Device Experience divisions are projected to stay in the red, with the DX unit likely posting a larger loss as demand stalls. The firm plans to release sixth-generation HBM4 chips for Nvidia’s upcoming AI accelerator later this year.

Why it matters

The profit surge highlights Samsung's dominance in memory chips, influencing global tech supply chains and market valuations.
