Samsung reports 30% rise in SmartThings users as AI appliances gain traction in India

Samsung says its SmartThings platform in India has grown 30% to 6.9 million monthly active users, while AI-enabled Bespoke appliances are now sold with Knox security built in.

Samsung announced that its SmartThings connected-home app in India has risen 30% in monthly active users, reaching 6.9 million, and now totals 33.15 million registered accounts, the third-largest market for the platform worldwide. The firm says half of every appliance sold in the country is a Bespoke AI model, featuring capabilities such as AI Vision in refrigerators, AI Energy Mode in WindFree air conditioners, and fabric-type detection in the new AI Laundry Combo.

To address data-privacy concerns, Samsung is integrating its Knox multi-layered security suite across these appliances and adding Voice ID to its upgraded Bixby assistant, while promising software updates for up to seven years. Growth is driven by a broader premiumisation trend, with consumers moving toward higher-end refrigerators and taking advantage of no-cost EMI financing. Samsung reports that its SmartThings AI Energy Mode saved more than 3,213 MWh of electricity across South and Southwest Asia in the past year. The company aims to shift the connected home from isolated smart devices to a cohesive ecosystem managed through a central AI Home screen.

Why it matters

The surge shows AI-enabled home appliances are becoming mainstream in India, reshaping consumer habits and raising data-security stakes.
