Samsung SDI's U.S. arm to deliver 1 GWh of storage batteries to Alpha Omega Power by December
Samsung SDI America signed a contract to supply Alpha Omega Power with 1 GWh of energy-storage batteries by the end of the year.
Samsung SDI Co. announced that its U.S. subsidiary, Samsung SDI America, has entered a new agreement to furnish Alpha Omega Power with 1 GWh of energy-storage system (ESS) solutions by December. The supply will consist of the Samsung Battery Box 1.7, an integrated system that employs nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) batteries, and will be manufactured at the StarPlus Energy facility in Indiana. StarPlus Energy is a 51:49 joint venture between Samsung SDI and Stellantis N.V., which also runs an electric-vehicle battery plant at the same site.
Including a contract signed last year, the two deals amount to 1.5 GWh and are worth hundreds of billions of won. Alpha Omega Power chief executive Paul Choi highlighted that the agreement bolsters the domestic supply chain supporting next-generation energy infrastructure. Samsung SDI has secured multiple ESS contracts with U.S. energy firms this year and continues discussions for further orders.
Why it matters
The deal expands U.S. renewable-energy storage capacity and deepens Samsung SDI's domestic supply chain.
