San Diego joins list of coastal markets expected to see soaring home prices
A new FinanceBuzz ranking places San Diego among U.S. beach towns where real-estate values are projected to keep climbing, despite median home prices already near $1 million.
In FinanceBuzz’s recent ranking of beachside locales poised for real-estate appreciation, San Diego emerged as the sole California entry. The city’s median single-family home price hovered around $990,000 during the three months ending in July, marking a 2.8% increase from the prior year and a 145% premium over the national average. August saw a 5.6% drop in available homes county-wide, intensifying competition; over one-third of transactions closed above the listed price and the average time on market was just 28 days.
Phil Green, chief executive of I Buy SD, cautioned buyers to invest only when they perceive a solid opportunity. Nearby markets such as Oceanside and Imperial Beach also reported high median prices, reinforcing the broader trend of rising coastal property values driven by tourism, remote-work demand, and limited supply.
Why it matters
Rising home costs in San Diego affect affordability for residents and signal broader pressure on coastal housing markets.
