San Leandro superintendent placed on leave amid alleged inappropriate conduct

San Leandro Unified School District Superintendent Mike McLaughlin has been put on administrative leave while the district investigates claims he made unwanted advances toward a female manager.

Mike McLaughlin, who has led San Leandro Unified School District since 2013, was removed from his duties pending an inquiry into accusations that he made unwanted advances toward a female district official during an alcohol-fueled outing. Multiple employees reported that McLaughlin physically touched the manager, prompting the district to engage an outside investigator. The school board stated that such conduct would violate its policies and rules of conduct if the allegations are substantiated.

McLaughlin has not responded to requests for comment. The district disclosed that his base salary is $390,352, with total compensation reaching $523,128. In his absence, Donal Patel, the assistant superintendent of educational services, will serve as acting superintendent. Further details will be released after the investigation concludes.
