Sánchez agrees to private face-to-face debate with Feijóo and to RTVE four-way forum

Pedro Sánchez confirmed participation in a private channel face-to-face debate with Alberto Núñez Feijóo and accepted RTVE’s invitation to a four-candidate debate.

Pedro Sánchez has consented to a direct face-to-face debate with Alberto Núñez Feijóo on a private television channel, matching the opposition’s earlier acceptance of that format. In addition, the PSOE confirmed it will join RTVE’s invitation to a debate that would include the four principal party leaders. The party emphasized it will not veto any private channel but will not allow a veto on public broadcaster RTVE, citing the constitutional duty of public service media in electoral debates.

The PP indicated readiness to attend RTVE’s broader discussion with parliamentary group spokespeople, though the PSOE has not yet decided on that extended format. The PSOE highlighted its past participation in both a private channel face-to-face and a public-service four-way debate during the last general election, contrasting it with Feijóo’s earlier absence from the public debate. The statement frames the upcoming debates as essential for transparent voter choice.

Why it matters

The agreed debates will give voters direct comparisons of party platforms ahead of the election.
