Sanctuary AI Demonstrates High-Precision Wire-Plugging Using Its Physical AI

Sanctuary AI reported a 99.5% success rate on a 2.54-second wire-plugging test for a Tier 1 automotive supplier, using its AI-driven software on existing industrial robots.

Sanctuary AI announced that its Physical AI system completed a wire-plugging task for a global Tier 1 automotive supplier with a 99.5% success rate and a 2.54-second cycle time, based on 313 trials over 40 minutes. The demonstration involved two disembodied robotic hands inserting flexible plugs into moving targets on a live conveyor, a job previously considered too complex for traditional automation. CEO Daniel Friedmann explained that the company is now focusing on integrating its AI software with existing industrial robots to deliver immediate production-ready performance, while still developing full-stack hardware for future humanoid robots.

He highlighted labor shortages and rising operational costs as drivers for this hardware-agnostic approach. The pilot remains at the proof-of-concept stage, with deployment timelines of a few weeks depending on task complexity. Sanctuary aims to expand the technology to other dexterity-intensive manufacturing and logistics operations.
