Sandra Bullock Opens Up About Partner Bryan Randall's Private ALS Battle

Sandra Bullock discussed on the SmartLess podcast why she kept Bryan Randall's ALS diagnosis hidden, describing the isolation it caused.

During a recent SmartLess interview, Sandra Bullock revealed the reasons behind her silence about partner Bryan Randall's battle with ALS, noting that he specifically asked her to keep the illness private. She said the secrecy isolated her, with only her sister Gesine Bullock-Prado aware of his condition for the majority of the three-year period. Managing Randall's health decline while raising her two children amid the COVID-19 pandemic created a “trifecta” of darkness, she added.

Over time, Bullock opened up to friends like Jennifer Aniston and Amanda Anka, yet she still felt she had been grieving him years before his passing on Aug. 5, 2023 at age 57. Randall, a photographer who met Bullock in 2015, had also fathered a daughter, Skylar, with his late ex-partner Janine Staten. The family previously asked for privacy, thanking medical staff for their support. Bullock’s comments mark her first public discussion of the private struggle.
