Sanju Samson blasts 57 to join India's exclusive T20I opening elite
Sanju Samson hit a rapid 57 against Afghanistan, becoming the fifth Indian opener to pass 1,000 T20I runs.
Playing at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Sanju Samson delivered a 57-run, 22-ball assault against Afghanistan, featuring seven fours and four sixes. India had earlier limited the visitors to 159/8, and Samson’s aggressive start helped set a strong platform for the chase. The knock pushed his tally to 1,026 runs as an opener, placing him among only five Indian batsmen to exceed the 1,000-run milestone in T20 Internationals.
He now ranks behind Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and Abhishek Sharma in this exclusive club. Samson’s strike rate of 181.59 is the highest among the five. The performance came after a lean spell of 33 runs in four innings and added pressure ahead of the upcoming Asian Games.
