Sanjukta Parashar appointed first female commander of CRPF's CoBRA unit

IPS officer Sanjukta Parashar has become the inaugural woman to lead the CRPF’s jungle-warfare commando force, CoBRA.

Sanjukta Parashar, known as the ‘Iron Lady of Assam’, was named IG of the CRPF’s CoBRA unit, marking the first time a woman has headed the elite jungle warfare command. Her appointment reflects the force’s broader strategy to place women in senior, combat-focused positions. Parashar is an alumna of Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University. The move follows ongoing efforts within the CRPF to increase female representation in operational leadership roles.

Why it matters
