Santa Ana police seek driver who allegedly ran over puppy in video
Santa Ana Police released surveillance footage that appears to show a woman deliberately running over a 9-month-old pit-bull mix with a minivan and are asking the public for help identifying her.
On September 8, Animal Services officers arrived at 900 W. Park Lane in Santa Ana after a resident reported that a woman had deliberately run over a 9-month-old male pit-bull mix with a minivan. After canvassing the neighborhood, police obtained a surveillance video that appears to confirm the allegation. The footage shows a woman exiting a Honda Odyssey at 926 W. Park Lane, laying kibble on the ground, placing the puppy nearby, and then backing up and driving forward, pinning the animal under the left rear tire for roughly fifteen seconds before continuing north on Lowell Street, leaving the injured puppy by the roadside.
The license plate cannot be read. Santa Ana Police are requesting tips from the public. Under California law, such intentional cruelty is a felony punishable by up to three years in county jail and fines up to $20,000, as illustrated by a recent 2024 case where a man received a two-year sentence for a similar act.
