Santiago Bernabéu excluded from La Liga's new referee interview rule
La Liga's referee transparency initiative will be applied at 19 stadiums, but the Santiago Bernabéu will not participate due to Real Madrid's broadcast restrictions.
This season La Liga rolled out a new transparency measure that obliges match officials to appear in live broadcasts before and after games to clarify their decisions. Nineteen of the league's stadiums have agreed to the format, but the Santiago Bernabéu will be left out. Real Madrid explained that the club's restrictions on broadcasters' technical access prevent the protocol from being implemented there.
As a result, viewers of Real Madrid's home fixtures will miss the immediate referee commentary offered elsewhere. The league highlighted that uniform application of the rule is intended to improve understanding of officiating across Spanish football. Until an agreement is reached, the Bernabéu will remain the sole venue operating outside the transparency scheme.
Why it matters
Fans of Real Madrid will not get live referee explanations for home games, unlike other La Liga matches.
